Fire Symposium Field Day

The field day included many live demos on a sugar farm hosted by the uMshwathi Fire Protection Association (FPA) and static displays at the Shafton air base in Karkloof.

Unfortunately, the weather was cold, wet and misty. Still, it did not deter attendees from engaging with equipment and service providers and networking with colleagues.

The Red Bull fire truck on a sugar farm hosted by the uMshwathi FPA. Sugar cane fires burn at very high temperatures, and the fire tender provides a fine mist spray off the side of the vehicle to cool things down.

Andre Scheepers of Anco Manufacturing demos the latest compressed air foam spray (CAFS) 800 firefighting unit. It injects foam into the water with compressed air, providing more power and reach than conventional fire tenders.
Jackie de Billot of Vanguard Fire & Safety demos a portable foam pack that gives firefighters some extra ammo.
